How To Clean Your Hat
Everyone has a hat at some point in their life and that hat will get dirty. You may be wondering how to clean a dirty hat. It is really not that hard to do, but there is more to it than just sticking it in the washing machine especially if it is a Richardson Flexfit Hats.
Richardson Flexfit Hats need to be cleaned better than a washing machine can do. A washing machine is too hard on a hat and other clothes in the washing machine could misshape the hat so that it will no longer look like a hat. Never put it in the dryer because dryers are too hot and tumbling will also misshape the hat. So it is better to avoid using a washing machine and dryer altogether.
When you do wash your hat do not use anything with bleach in it because you do not want the color of the hat to fade. Without using bleach or other harsh chemicals your hat will stay nice and bright for years to come.
Washing your hat by hand is really the best way to do it to make sure the shape and color maintain itself. Not only will you be able to maintain its shape but you can use certain laundry soaps that will not be hard on the hat.
You will simply need to fill a sink or bucket with warm water, not hot and not too cold. Just make sure it’s cooler than hot. As the sink or bucket is filling with water add a tablespoon of laundry detergent or OxiClean. Dish soap can work if you’re in a pinch but the laundry soap or OxiClean will get the stains out of the fiber of the hat better than dish soap can.
First, you will want to spot clean the hat. This means put soap and water on the areas that have spotted only without dipping the hat in the water right away. Then dip your hat in the water and use a toothbrush to scrub the cleaning detergent into the hat. Do not scrub too hard or some of the stitching may come out and your hat could fray and come apart quicker than it normally would.
When you put the hat back into the bucket or sink let it soak for a couple of hours. Halfway through letting it soak take the hat out and check on the stains and make sure they are coming out. If you need to use your toothbrush to scrub the tough stains again to ensure they will come out.
Now you will want to rinse off the hat and make sure you get all the soap or OxiClean out of the hat before letting it dry. You do not want to leave the soap on the hat, it will ruin the hat in the long run.
The hat will be extremely wet when you take it out of the bucket or sink so hold it up and let it drip dry for a few minutes, then take a paper towel and pat it dry to get all the excess water off. The point of using a paper towel to pat it dry is to get the excess water off so the hat does not drip water everywhere while sitting to dry plus it will dry a little faster.
Sit your hat on a container or an upside-down pot to ensure the shape stays intact. Then let it sit and air dry.
With this simple way to wash your hat, you can wash all your hats and get them all clean in no time at all.
